5 Quick Morning Stretches to Wake Up Your Body

We all know the struggle of waking up feeling stiff and groggy, especially on those colder mornings when staying under the covers sounds way more appealing than getting up. But a few simple stretches can work wonders in shaking off the sleepiness and setting you up for a more energized day! Here are five quick morning stretches to gently wake up your body and get you moving.

1. Neck Stretch

Let’s start with something simple. Sit or stand tall, drop your right ear toward your right shoulder, and hold for a few seconds. Repeat on the left side. You can add a slight pull with your hand for a deeper stretch. This helps release tension built up overnight.

2. Shoulder Rolls

Shrug your shoulders up to your ears, then roll them back and down in slow circles. Do this five times, then switch directions. It’s a great way to loosen up your upper body and improve posture, especially if you tend to wake up feeling stiff.

3. Cat-Cow Stretch

This yoga classic is amazing for your spine. Get on all fours, inhale as you arch your back and lift your head (cow), then exhale as you round your back and tuck your chin (cat). Repeat for 5-10 breaths to wake up your core and ease any back tension.

4. Standing Forward Fold

Stand with your feet hip-width apart, hinge at your hips, and let your upper body hang toward the floor. Keep a slight bend in your knees if needed. This stretch wakes up your hamstrings, lower back, and even your brain as it increases blood flow!

5. Side Stretch

Stand tall and reach both arms overhead. Grab your left wrist with your right hand and gently lean to the right. Hold for a few breaths, then switch sides. This opens up your sides and feels so good after a long night of sleep.

This whole routine takes less than five minutes, but it can make a huge difference in how you feel throughout the day. Try it out tomorrow morning and see how much more awake and refreshed you feel!
